12/19 Sustainability Essentials Webinar

December

Monday, December 19, 2011
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This one-hour webinar provides a grounding in the environmental issues related to home furnishings, including the factual basis for climate change, problems with indoor air quality, toxic waste, and water conservation. Source documents are public records such as the U.N. IPCC 4th Assessment Report and the U.S. EPA, translated from technical jargon into easily understood concepts with common references all explicitly linked to the home furnishings industry.  Content also includes a synopsis of GREENleaders, the industry first certified sustainability training course.  This webinar is intended to give participants useful information you can begin using in your business immediately as well as answer any questions you may have about getting the most out of SFC membership and participating in the full exam program to receive your credentials as a local expert in green furnishings.

“Designing and Downsizing”

Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Dallas Center for Architecture
6:30 pm

As conventional energy sources diminish and more consumers demand environmentally sustainable design and construction, have we reached the end of the “bigger is better” aesthetic in residential and commercial architecture?   We’ll discuss what impact a desire for a smaller carbon footprint might have on average square footages of new homes and businesses, the challenges of reducing size, and energy and resource consumption without compromising form or function, and the ways in which these smaller spaces might affect how we live, work and interact in the future.
